Using this hack, can I place video content on the zune through windows explorer by transferring folders into the video area? I am trying to organize my video files into folders, and wondering if I can through this method.

Yes, I just tried it with Vista, and it works exactly as shown. I get the two devices as well, but I can't seem to do anything with it besides view the files. Most of the files have a big stop sign at the corner of the icon, but I can't move, copy, or even look at anything.

The pictures won't even thumbnail, but I guess we're halfway there! Sick hack....

Look. i did everythign correct it is showing up. but when i try and copy folders from the zune it says acess denied. how do u bypass this. thanks

This technique worked fine, but is it possible to view the contents of the library? My motherboard just sharted and I have no way to know yet if my entire HDD-based music library was also fried in the short circuit. Currently, my Zune is my only hope to avoid having to re-rip my cd collection which would prove to be a royal pain in the cheeks. Any solutions?

To Joel:

You can reconnect your zune as a guest and take the files from there via zune software and sync it to your new PC/Hard Drive. I did this and it was a life saver.

I did this technique and i have the same problems. I can view the files but cant transfer due to restrictions. Im thinking it has to do with the new firmware ver. 1.2 but im not positive. any ideas?

2 guys that cant add/delete, sync a bunch of stuff (while library is open in "my computer") then drag the files you want into the "songs" file in the zune. I think while syncing with zune software the zune kind of "drops its guard" w/the access denied crap.

ya if u sync wen ur trying to add/delete things it will let u do it but wen the syncing is complete u can no longer do anything, but if u are copying one file it will continue to copy after the sync is completed but only that file

This hack works, but sucks. Great now I can get into the zune and see the shit I already know I have, but I want to be able to take the stuff my friend gave me, off the zune then back on to it to keep it for good. Also... how can I change the picture of a certain artist that I have on my device rather than that shitty default cover design?
any help on both topics would be great!

You must have the Zune software running to unlock your files, then you should be able to gain full control over the Zune. As for it showing up twice, I'm still working on a fix for that.

As far as the picture part goes, save any picture that you want for the label in My Pictures. Open up the Zune program and simply drag and drop whatever you want got the album cover over the album picture.

i know this has already been brought up but i didnt see an answer. i am on a new laptop with vista after i lost all the data on my shitty old dell and really need to be able to rip my files off my zune as they are my only copy. i ran the hack but cannot move anything... is there anyway around the stop signs outside of the sync method as i have too much data on there for that to work. not enough space to sync on in order to give enough time to rip off...

After the hack try starting the Zune software and transferring a large file. During transfer while it is synching close the Zune software which should leave the Zune player in synching mode allowing transfers. At least that's what I've read, going to try it out for sure tonight.

I did this hack on Vista a few months ago and it worked great! I had no trouble at all... until I updated the Zune firmware and the computer software to the new version. I checked to see if it was still there and it wasn't. I redid the hack and it still doesn't show. Any fix to this?

Just did this hack on Vista Ultimate with the latest Zune firmware and software. Only Issues: Listed 2x in explorer and must have zune software running to copy files.

For all of you who are using Vista and can't get the hack to work at all (this has nothing to do with the copying/protected problems) make sure you change the registry values not only in ControlSet001 but also in ControlSet002, ControlSet003, and CurrentControlSet if you have all of them (I don't have a ControlSet002 but I assume it does exist). I had to change it in 001 and 003 for the hack to work.

Hope this helps those who can't get their player to show up at all!

Why do I keep losing all my songs or video data when I try to sync something new to my Zune 30gb. Do I have to keep EVERYTHING on my PC library in order to keep it on my Zune? I don't want to overload my PC with a bunch of stuff. I'd like to be able to just sync my songs/video/pics to the Zune, delete it, and keep going. But once I've removed it from the PC, if I sync anything new, the old stuff get deleted and I have to start all over again. What the hell am I doing wrong?

I dont understand where to go to get this hack to work, I get all the way until it says:

yea, i did it right, and i took matt's advice and changed it in all the controlsets and it still wont show. and the thing about it that pisses me off is that when my music shows up all fine and dandy in the zune sync program but is all effed up on the zune. im anal and it pisses me off. how to i fix that?

Oh my gosh. I don't believe it. I had to restart my computer because of a virus and i thought "no biggie, ill just put my important files on the zune". So I restart and here is irony for you. No, I didn't bring the virus from the zune to my PC. Well, sort of...You see, the virus is the new version of Zune firmware 3.0. It completely disables doing a quick registry hack and thus enabling drag and drop. You can VIEW your files but you can never sync because if you are ever syncing with the new firmware/software, which allows zune games, you will NOT BE ABLE TO SEE ANY OF THE FILES. Wow microsoft, touchee, way to bend me over and nail me.
